San Bernardino County takes fall to the next level, offering real seasonal changes in Southern California. Like the changing colors of the leaves, annual autumn activities make their return for family fun. Check out these October events for festive fall fun including art walks, art festivals, trick-or-treating events, haunted houses, ski races, evening zoo tours, pumpkins, pinecones, parties and much more!

 

With Halloween just around the corner, there are many spooky events offering trick-or-treating fun... and a good scare! Now is the perfect time to explore San Bernardino County!


BIG BEAR


Big Bear Yoga Festival

This one day event brings yoga to the mountains. Focusing on health and wellness, the yoga festival offers a variety of seminars and classes to introduce beginners to the practice and to challenge advanced yogis. It’s a full day of guided meditation, personal health, music and fun in a beautiful outdoor space.

Spartan Race Big Bear at Snow Summit

The Spartan Race is off in Big Bear! During October 28 & 29, athletes compete against themselves in run filled with obstacles to test their endurance and heart. Participants may compete in one or both races during the weekend, The Reebok Spartan Beast or The Reebok Spartan Sprint. Find a spot along the course and cheer on the “spartans” from the sideline.

Big Bear Alpine Zoo Flashlight Safari

There is even more to see at the zoo after dark. The Big Bear Alpine Zoo host their annual Flashlight Safari event. Throughout October, the Zoo invites visitors to get a better look at the nocturnal mountain animals. Catch the twinkling eyes of the owls, see the shiny coast of wolves and experience the rest of the creatures of the night while on this special night-time tour.

Boo at The Zoo

Boo at The Zoo is the Big Bear Alpine Zoo’s annual spooktacular event. Throughout the night, haunting tales and dark stories can be heard while children dabble in fun arts and crafts. The famed pumpkin enrichment table is always a hit, but it comes up a tie when compared to the tasty treats offered at the trick-or-treat stations. It’s a festive event celebrating the holiday with a few of your favorite animals. Children are encouraged to come in costume as they spend the day celebrating Halloween a bit early in Big Bear.

Halloween in The Village

Celebrate Halloween at Big Bear Village. With more than 50 places to trick-or-treat, kids and their families suit up in their costumes and walk through the village to pick up as many goodies as they can.

LAKE ARROWHEAD


11th Annual Pine Cone Festival

A family-friendly fall event featuring all things pine cones. Play games, make pine cone crafts, enter the biggest and longest pine cone contest, enjoy food and music, and learn about forest wildlife and safety from Smokey the Bear.

Pumpkins in The Pines Harvest Festival at Skypark at Santa’s Village

SkyPark at Santa’s Village is celebrating one more holiday before Christmas. The Pumpkins in The Pines Harvest Festival sprinkles in seasonal activities along with their fun attractions for a festive autumn festival in the mountains. Visitors can find their own pumpkin at the Skypark pumpkin patch, tour the apple orchard, and enjoy live music while playing a few harvest games.

Lake Arrowhead Village - Trick or Treating & Family Fun

A fun-filled Halloween at the famous Lake Arrowhead Village. Children and families roam the village enjoying trick-or-treating & live performances such as Thriller & other dances by the Lake Arrowhead School of Dance at Center Stage. Kids come dressed for the annual costume contest and their pets also have a chance to compete in a costume contest of their own.

JOSHUA TREE
 

Climb Smart 2017

Calling all rock climbers! Joshua Tree National Park is celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service with a weekend long rock climbing excursion. For three days, climber will experience the campgrounds of Joshua Tree National Park and venture out on the giant rock formation for hours worth of climbing.

Desert Daze Music & Art Festival

Festival season is not over in the desert. Desert Daze is a weekend-long festival celebrating music with a mix of psych, dirge and acid rock. The three day event adds to the traditional festival experience based on it’s awesome location a The Institute of Mental Physics. Placed in the desert with all its wonder, Desert Daze is a total experience with great vibes and music that some consider a desert retreat.

Babes Ride Out

It’s time to hit the road. The all-female motorcycle event makes it’s way back to Joshua Tree National Park for Babes Ride Out. On 40 acres of beautiful desert landscape, the four day events combines friends, food, music and fun for a special camping experience & an epic desert ride.

Discover the Wonderland of Rocks

Botanical Illustration in Joshua Tree National Park

The art workshop exposes participants to a long standing practice in botany. Participants will learn how to sketch what they see and learn how to give three-dimensional form to their sketches. Participants will also learn how they can turn their sketches into a finished image.

Take a Walk and See the Park Through the Eyes of an Artist

Archaeology of Joshua Tree National Park

Venture into Joshua Tree National Park and discover the artifacts of its past. Anthropologist Daniel McCarthy leads the archaeological field workshop, showing off the artifacts of the land while detailing the history of the area and the people who lived there.

Night of The Living Bread

Theatre 29's Improvisational Troupe, THE BAKERS DOZEN takes the stage for a special one-night only performance of Night of The Living Bread. The special Halloween improv performance is a combination of spooky and kooky and features top improvisers and special guest. The hauntingly hilarious will surely get a rise out of you.

Pioneer Days

It is time for the annual Western celebration of Twentynine Palms. The 81st Annual Pioneer Days event narrates the history of the desert town. The four days are filled with friends, family, music, food, history and culture. The annual parade is always a showstopping highlight of the celebration. The traditional activities such as the Old Timer’s Gathering and Art Gallery Chili Dinner return as a growing tradition of these fun festive days.

Picture the Park in Black and White

The extensive workshop dives into the world of black and white photography and how it relates to the desert as a form of documentation and expression. Guided by expert Jim Smart, participants will explore the zone system, black and white visualization and techniques to boost creativity while capturing black and white images.

MORONGO BASIN


HWY 62 Open Studio Art Tours  

The 16th Annual HWY 62 Open Studio Art Tours are back as one of the top art events in the desert. The unique art events shows the mixed medium art created in the desert for the world to see. Provided with a map, art-lovers plan their own tours adventuring through Morongo Basin exploring the 82 art studios in the area. With more than 140 artist exhibiting work, patrons will have the chance to experience a range of emotion on their tour and speak to the artists themselves!

Monster Mayhem - Ghost Haunt

Calico Ghost Town is getting a bit more spooky this season. Their Ghost Haunt event makes a return as a Halloween celebration. Visitors come dressed in their costumes to enjoy the haunted attractions, carve pumpkins, and dive into all the sweet treats while trick-or-treating throughout the town.

The Haunted Green House

The iconic Green House on K Street opens its doors for the season as the local favorite haunted house. The annual Haunted House Nightmare experience is back! Visitors can tour the haunted house for a chance to see a glimpse of paranormal activity.

Art, for Heaven’s Sake Festival

As a premiere art festival in the Inland Empire, the Art for Heaven’s Sake Festival features more than 60 artists and their unique works. From pottery to photography, the festival is filled with different styles of work to admire and purchase.

Halloween Downtown

For the upcoming fall holiday, the entire city of Redlands is getting into the spirit of Halloween. From now until the end of the month, you can find Halloween themed events and spooky activities happening throughout the city.  It is everything from costume contest, movie nights, live performances, trick-or-treating with more festive fun added to the calendar everyday.
