San Bernardino County is gearing up to host some of their most iconic events of the season. From hot rods to fall music festivals, visitors can plan a day trip or make it a weekend in Big Bear, Lake Arrowhead, Ontario, 29 Palms and Yucca Valley.

Check out these mountain and desert events happening in September - see you there!

Big Bear

The Big Bear Trout Fest is becoming a true tradition in the mountains. For more than a decade, the trout fest brings anglers from all over SoCal to the mountains to enjoy their favorite hobby. On the lakeside of Big Bear Marina, anglers will hook their bait for a chance to catch a big one and win one of the many prizes during this fishing event.
When: September 9 - 10, 2017
Where: Big Bear Marina at 500 Paine Road
Cost: Adults: $75 | Juniors (16 & under): $50 (cost of participation)

Welcome the fall season at Big Bear’s annual Oktoberfest! Grab a stein of German and American beirs and ales and enjoy the authentic German celebration. Feast on traditional German fare like Brats and Knockwursts direct from the German butcher, while live music plays and people take to the dancefloor. The family-friendly event is a great weekend trip filled with fun, food, games, and too many brews to enjoy in one day.
When: September 9 - October 28, 2017 (Weekends only; excluding Oktoberfest Unplugged)

Hot Dawgs and Hand Rails is one of the largest events in the ski industry…. And it happens in September! It’s dubbed “the largest winter kickoff party known to man.” World class riders wax up their boards to hit the custom rail jam course designed and by Bear Mountain’s park staff. It’s a party in the mountains as snow enthusiasts get to see award-winning riders show off their skills mixed in with a few music performances and an exclusive film screening for an over-the-top mountain weekend.

A little dirt, two wheels and open mountain views makes the Big Bear Mountain Bike Gran Fondo/ Grizzly 100 a scenic outdoor event for active adventurers. Making a name for itself as one of the top endurance mountain bike events in Southern California, the gran fondo offers five different courses for all levels of riders to show off some athleticism. While riders take to the trails, spectators can watch professional mountain bike riders compete during the Grizzly 100.
When: September 30, 2017

Ontario

Hot rods and classic cars line the streets of Ontario for the 5th Route 66 Cruisin’ Reunion. Car enthusiasts and their families roll up in amazement, looking at the stunning automobiles. For twenty two blocks in Downtown Ontario, the classic car show is adding Grammy Award-winning performances, tasty food vendors, raffles and contests for the whole family.

Twentynine Palms

A fusion of art and nature, the Joshua Tree National Park Art Exposition is an annual event highlighting the unique artistry and creativity that live in the desert. The multi-day event shows masterful work inspired by the national park. There are art exhibits, art markets, interactive workshops, live music, festive bites and more, staged throughout the community. Yucca Valley

A micro-festival for true music lovers, the Desert Star Festival is a three day Indie Rock festival in the desert. Every year the festival brings in an intimate crowd of music enthusiasts to tune in and jam out to more than thirty bands on three stages in the iconic city of Pioneertown. The low-key music festival is an eclectic mix of musicians and art, creating a vibrant community of music lovers  to enjoy a sensational experience at the desert’s best entertainment venue, Pappy and Harriet’s Palace.

Lake Arrowhead

Near Lake Arrowhead, people flock to the mountain town of Blue Jay to marvel at hand-crafted masterpieces. Local crafters put their skills to use, patching pieces of fabric together to create intricate quilts. Sponsored by the Willow Woods Quilt Guild and Lake Arrowhead Chamber of Commerce, the quilts are auctioned off to benefit the local mountain organization Camp Paivika in Crestline.
